Karuppu
Release Date: June 12, 2026
OTT Platform: AMAZON PRIME
Languages: Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Hindi
Genre: Drama, Action, Fantasy, Thriller
This is the story of a God who comes to seek justice for a devotee who sought His help. The first half moves along excellently with father-daughter sentiment scenes, courtroom drama, and the entry of God. However, because there is no solid story after the intermission, it becomes hard to accept; it relies on random reference scenes from previous movies and the villain's plans to escape from God, all of which feel overly cinematic and defy realism. On the other hand, the climax and the interval block are electrifying, thanks to Sai Abhyankar's music. The film is technically excellent, and the technical team has done an especially great job with the action sequences.
Overall, Karuppu has a superb first half, an average second half, and a next-level climax.
Languages: Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Hindi
Genre: Drama, Romantic
The story follows a 29-year-old man who is searching for his true identity and trying to understand who he really is. Blending romance and family emotions, the film touches the heart through its impactful scenes and meaningful dialogues. Since the story revolves around the experiences and struggles of a young man in his late twenties, it is likely to resonate strongly with younger audiences. However, the film begins as a romantic drama, suddenly shifts into a hero-versus-villain conflict in the second half, and then returns to the love track. This transition does not feel entirely convincing. Because of this, the film occasionally feels longer than it actually is. Nevertheless, the emotional moments throughout the movie continue to keep the audience invested and entertained.
Overall, '29' — it would have been even more enjoyable if it had stayed on a single track.
This is a story that takes place between a resort owner, who wants to earn money through illegal activities, and Jai, who stays at his resort with his wife. While the first half travels with romance and cheating, the second half travels on a crime thriller route. However, the way these were told does not impress much. It also does not shine well in terms of making. Only a few dialogues and scenes are okay. The scenes appearing in the movie are forced and defy realism, which creates a setback for the film.
Overall, Sattendru Maaruthu Vaanilai lacks realism in its screenplay.
The story of the movie is about the decision made by Samuthirakani, who works as a car driver, and the events that unfold in his life after that. The film's narrative moves along the struggles and humiliations faced by a middle-class family and the way they confront them. Since the movie runs on a non-linear screenplay, after establishing that "this is the problem for Samuthirakani," it takes a lot of time for the story to progress toward it. However, because the scenes, appropriate dialogues, and situational settings blend together well, the movie does not cause much boredom.
Overall, Carmeni Selvam is presented as a feel-good family drama to watch with family. Don't miss it.
The story of the movie Leader revolves around Legend Saravanan, a car mechanic in Thoothukudi, who unexpectedly gets caught up in a clash between the police and gangsters at the harbor, and how he escapes from it. Right from the start of the film, successive twists make the first half move at a fast pace. However, the scenes after the intermission do not impress much. Many twists occur after the interval as well, but none of them are particularly noteworthy. The length of the climax fight sequences in the movie is a bit too long. Otherwise, there aren't any major flaws. Some dialogues and twists are actually quite good.
Overall, Leader is an average thriller movie, except for a few scenes in the second half.
The story of the movie Faces is about an accident that occurs in the life of a woman named Nithya, and the problems she faces after that. It starts with her lover, Michael, going missing at the beginning, but from there, the story travels without moving to the next level, which causes boredom. At one point, the missing lover returns, and only during the last half hour does the story pick up some pace. Until then, there is nothing majorly exciting or emotional in the story.
Overall, Faces gives the feeling of taking a story meant for a short film and trying to make it into a full-length feature film.
People who worship Satan live in a village called Asthinapuram. Because they torture themselves with rituals, including human sacrifice, people from other villages do not accept or associate with them. The story revolves around a woman named Aira who lives in this village. The filmmakers have moved the story forward in a genre that doesn't have many movies—Satan worship. The film contains scenes that create fear and offer a thriller experience. However, because the story travels in a non-linear narrative, it becomes difficult to understand. Furthermore, leaving the chosen story unfinished just to give a lead-in to the next part did not suit this film well.
Overall, Sathan - The Dark has terrifying scenes, but the screenplay is not clear.
The story revolves around a group of spies who fight to stop a destructive plot planned against India and save the nation. In an attempt to make the narrative thrilling with constant twists, the film ends up becoming unnecessarily confusing. Another major issue is that most of the twists presented neither feel interesting nor logically convincing. Only a few emotional scenes work to some extent. However, the action sequences are well-executed and visually impressive. Fans of action films may still find it worth a one-time watch.
Overall, Mr. X — a spy war that lacks real excitement.
This is a story about a police officer trying to track down a murderer behind a killing that takes place in an apartment complex. Since the film follows a non-linear narrative, it is difficult to understand where the story is heading during the first half hour. After that, the screenplay picks up pace with gripping twists as the police investigation intensifies in search of the killer. However, the unnecessary importance given to certain side characters and a few logical flaws hold the film back. Setting those aside, the movie still manages to deliver a fairly engaging thriller experience.
The story revolves around a husband who reacts to everything in an overly emotional manner and a wife who struggles to tell him about her former lover. Once the audience figures out what the climax is going to be, the journey leading up to it does not remain particularly engaging. Because of this, the film feels like it is merely waiting to reach its ending. The limited number of characters is not an issue by itself, but the lengthy scenes and excessive dialogues become tiring after a point. However, the film deserves appreciation for poetically conveying the idea that everything happening in this world is accidental, and that neither saving nor losing a life is entirely in our hands.
Overall, Oh Butterfly — the story is small, but the runtime feels very long.
Languages: Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, Hindi
Genre: Romance, Action, Thriller, Drama
The story revolves around a lover who is imprisoned in a murder case and the woman he loved, who testified against him. The gripping screenplay, the twists that unfold throughout the narrative, the changing camera angles suited to each scene, the performances of the actors, and the well-crafted background score keep the audience fully engaged with the screen. Blending thriller, drama, action, and romance in balanced proportions, the film works effectively as an engaging entertainer. Except for a few logical inconsistencies that appear here and there, it turns out to be a solid thriller. Fans of thriller films are likely to enjoy this movie very much.
Overall, Dakkayithu — if you are not too concerned about logic, get ready for an excellent thriller experience!
Languages: Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Hindi
Genre: Romance, Comedy
The story revolves around an ordinary young man and a corporate app owner. Set in the year 2040, the film attempts to highlight how being constantly immersed in mobile phones can make us lose relationships, friendships, and happiness in our daily lives. However, these themes are not conveyed with enough emotional depth, as the film primarily focuses on the conflict between the hero and the villain. Because of this, the movie fails to create a strong connection with the audience at any point. A few scenes feel fresh, and some dialogues are well-written. Visually, the film is impressive.
Overall, LIK — lacks emotional impact in its scenes.
Languages: Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Hindi
Genre: Action, Drama, Romantic, Sports
The story revolves around a situation where a decision made by the hero in a critical moment leads to his father being falsely accused. The film then follows the son’s struggle to clear his father’s name. However, by the time we understand what the situation is and what decision was made, nearly half the film has already passed. Until then, it remains unclear where the story is heading. It is only in the second half that the narrative gains clarity, making it easier for the audience to engage. The second half, in particular, does not feel boring at any point. Visually and in terms of making, the film is impressive. The bike racing sequences are well-executed and stand out.
Overall, Biker — confusing in the first half, clear in the second.
The story revolves around the brother-in-law of an MLA and Selvaraghavan, who runs a hotel in the same village. What begins as a story about the need for a proper road in the village gradually shifts into a different track. Except for the last half hour, the film lacks engagement in most parts. Although the director seems to intend to highlight the importance of road connectivity for a village, the film does not give it enough emphasis. This is mainly because it is revealed only towards the end that the road issue is not the core theme of the story. Amateur performances and scenes that feel like television serials act as drawbacks.
Overall, Manithan Deivamaagalam portrays how a man loses his balance due to aggression.
The story follows a man who travels from the United States to his native village to meet his girlfriend, and the events that unfold between him and the villagers. The film begins on a light comedic note and gradually shifts into a thriller. Although the premise follows a familiar template—a mysterious fort in the village, a monster within it, and the hero getting trapped inside—the film manages to stay engaging with its series of twists and small moments of humor. However, the climax is not entirely satisfying. After building up the story with suspense, it ends abruptly in the name of a twist. It is still a decent watch for a relaxed time with family.
Languages: Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Hindi
Genre: Romance, Drama
This is a love story between a female film director and an app developer. The portions involving the grandfather and grandson are somewhat decent. Other aspects of the film feel neither fresh nor particularly noteworthy. In fact, it is often unclear what exactly the story is trying to convey. The lengthy scenes and excessive dialogues only add to the film’s runtime. However, a few moments stand out—such as the scene where the protagonist, unable to handle the pain of a breakup, questions her mother about how she managed to live after separating from her father, and the reunion of the parents in the climax.
Languages: Tamil, Malayalam, Telugu, Kannada, Hindi
Genre: Political
The story follows a son who fights against a sexual allegation made against his father, who is the Chief Minister. The film looks visually rich, with heavy use of slow motion and background music. However, that seems to be its primary strength. Despite touching on themes like politics, media, social media, data, and algorithms, the film fails to create strong engagement. Only a few scenes and dialogues stand out. The first half does not clearly establish where the story is heading until the second half begins, which tests the audience’s patience. A story that could have been told within two hours feels unnecessarily stretched with excessive slow motion, background score, and buildup.
The story follows Sathish, who is preparing for his wedding with his girlfriend, when an explicit video related to him gets leaked. His friend then tries to delete it, and the events that follow form the rest of the plot. Some of the dialogues manage to evoke laughter at certain points, but for the most part, the comedy does not work effectively. Moreover, the romantic portions lack emotional depth, which reduces the tension around what would happen if the video reaches his girlfriend. With weak romance, ineffective comedy, and a lack of suspense, the film struggles to stay engaging.
Overall, Musthafa Musthafa — it lacks the very excitement the story needs.
Languages: Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Hindi
Genre: Drama, Comedy, Romantic
The story follows a boy who barely passes his 10th grade and moves on to the 11th, and the events that unfold in his life thereafter. Although the hero experiences multiple love interests in the film, none of them carry strong emotional weight. Instead, it is the characters and scenes involving his parents that leave a deeper impact. The first half feels unnecessary, and except for a few scenes, much of it could have been trimmed without affecting the film. While school and college students may find the film relatable, others might find it a bit difficult to connect with.
Overall, Youth — it has a message, but feels slightly lengthy.
The story revolves around actor Vijay Sethupathi, who reaches out to people through radio to listen to stories for his next film, and the individuals who come forward to narrate those stories. Apart from the basic premise of a popular actor seeking scripts, the film does not offer much in terms of overall engagement. The twist in Nakul’s segment comes as a surprise, and a few scenes in Jayaram’s portion carry emotional weight. However, most of the other segments feel familiar and predictable.
Overall, *Kadhal Kadhai Sollava* — worth listening to once.
Languages: Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, Hindi
Genre: Comedy, Drama
The story revolves around an elderly grandmother who is nearing the end of her life and her relationship with her sons. The film stands out because of its natural scenes and realistic dialogues. Since the situations and characters reflect everyday life, it becomes easy for any viewer to connect with the story. In the end, the dialogues addressing women’s independence add strong value, making it a film that every woman should watch and understand. It is well-suited for a family viewing, especially for those who enjoy drama.
Overall, Thaai Kizhavi is a well-made entertainer with several powerful messages.
The story revolves around the conflict between the owners of a bull that wins a *Manju Virattu* (bull-taming) competition and those who lose it. While some scenes feel familiar, the dialogues that accompany them help elevate the film. A group relentlessly chases the hero due to past enmity—both for a mistake he unknowingly made and for something he didn’t even do. These continuous twists keep the film engaging. If you have the time, it can be enjoyed with family.
The story revolves around Sasikumar and a group of people who are searching for him in order to obtain his kidney for a transplant surgery. The film not only explains the legal aspects of organ transplantation but also raises awareness about organ trafficking. By choosing organ theft as its central theme, the movie effectively presents it in the form of a gripping thriller. In the end, the film concludes on a meaningful note, inspired by Vallalar’s philosophy of *“Jeevakarunyam”* (compassion for all living beings), where the protagonist shows kindness even towards those who intended to harm him.
Overall, *My Lord* — *show compassion even to your enemy, O kind heart.*
The story follows a man who travels from Mumbai to Chennai after receiving a call from his girlfriend and stays in an apartment there. What follows are a series of supernatural events and the mysteries surrounding them. The film presents a routine horror-thriller setup without offering any particularly engaging or fresh moments. Most of the scenes are predictable, which works against the film. Delaying the core reveal until the last half hour tests the audience’s patience. Only one or two scenes truly stand out.
The story follows Seetha, who begins a journey to Madurai to attend a workshop, and the people she meets along the way, along with the events that unfold. The reasons she gives for not wanting love or marriage, and the solutions presented in the film, may not be entirely new, but they are conveyed with emotional depth. The dialogues that appear at various points in the film carry a certain weight and meaning. However, the repeated pattern of the people she encounters getting caught in problems becomes somewhat tiring. The inclusion of action scenes feels unnecessary, as the film would have worked just as well without them.
Overall, *Seetha Payanam* is a journey in search of new relationships.
The story revolves around an honest female police officer and a powerful local rowdy in the area where she works. The film follows a familiar narrative of the challenges faced by a sincere woman police officer. It is made in the style of films like *Singam* and *Siruthai*, but with a female protagonist at the center. Apart from this, there is nothing particularly new in the film. Sai Dhanshika is constantly involved in action sequences from beginning to end, which becomes somewhat tiring.
Overall, *Yogida* — a strong female cop is its strength, while the lack of freshness in the screenplay is its weakness.
The story follows lovers who break up, deciding that they no longer want to continue their relationship. The film then focuses on the people they meet afterward and the problems that arise because of it. Some comedic moments work well, especially the dog’s voice-over narration and Kathir’s humorous counters. The movie also includes scenes that people who are in love—or those who are thinking about falling in love—can relate to. However, instead of choosing a clear direction—either moving on to a new love or rekindling the old one—the story keeps wandering around before finally reaching a conclusion, which creates a sense of fatigue. Vijay Antony’s occasional short songs also feel like speed breakers.
Overall, *Pookie* goes around in circles before reaching the point.
Languages: Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, Hindi, English
Genre: Drama
The story revolves around a woman named Shenba, her ambitions, and the struggles she goes through to achieve them. Despite its nearly two-hour runtime, the film never feels boring. Although a few scenes that follow can be somewhat predictable, the strong emotional backing behind them helps the audience connect well with the story. The film concludes with the idea that *“what we think is the end is actually where a new beginning starts,”* which leaves a sense of satisfaction.
Overall, *Made in Korea* is a feel-good drama that leaves a pleasant impact.
The story follows a woman who unexpectedly becomes pregnant during the lockdown after an incident involving an unknown man. The film focuses on the difficulties she faces while trying to terminate the pregnancy and hide the situation from her family. It is unclear why the film ends with a message suggesting that she could have simply told her parents the truth, despite all the mistakes she makes in trying to conceal the issue. The movie includes several scenes that relate to situations experienced during the COVID-19 lockdown period. As the heroine continuously goes through one hardship after another, the repeated suffering creates sympathy for her but eventually becomes somewhat exhausting for the audience.
Overall, *Lockdown* is a series of trials piled one after another.
