Soori plays a loving uncle who cherishes his sister Swasika’s firstborn son like his own child, especially after she struggles for years without having a baby. The boy is equally attached to Soori, following him wherever he goes. But this deep bond, which starts off as heartwarming, soon leads to a moral conflict.

Soori gets married to his longtime love, played by Aishwarya Rajesh. But on their wedding night, the child insists on staying with Soori — even wanting to accompany him into the honeymoon suite. Disturbed and hurt, his wife feels neglected and files for divorce.

The film then explores Soori’s emotional turmoil: Does he choose the wife he loved or the boy he raised with such care? How does he overcome this heartbreak and reunite the broken bonds in his life?

Soori delivers a grounded and heartfelt performance that fits the film’s tone. Director Prashanth Pandiyaraj deserves appreciation for focusing on the rarely told, deep bond between an uncle and nephew. While the film is mostly natural and realistic, a few melodramatic, TV-serial-like scenes slow it down.

If you enjoy emotional, family-centric stories, Maman is a good watch with your loved ones. Overall Maman – Not just an uncle. A motherly uncle.
