Detailed Review
Deepak Tej (Nagarjuna), an honest CBI officer, is imprisoned for a crime he didn't commit. This leaves him bitter toward the system.
Meanwhile, a powerful industrialist Neeraj Mitra (Jim Sarbh) learns through a scientist that there's a huge reserve of oil near the Bay of Bengal — enough to fuel India's needs for the next 15 years. Determined to control it, Neeraj plans a ₹50,000 crore deal through his sidhappa, the Petroleum Minister (Haris Parodi).
To execute the plan, they need Deepak Tej’s help, so they manipulate him into joining them by promising his release. They set up four fake companies in the names of illiterate, innocent beggars and use these to launder foreign black money into India. Their plan is to kill all four afterward.
While three beggars are killed, the fourth — Deva (Dhanush) — escapes. Without him, the money can't be transferred. The villains now hunt him down.
Deva seeks help from Sameera (Rashmika Mandanna). Can Deva escape? Will the villains get their money back? Who is Sameera and why is she helping Deva? Director Sekhar Kammula presents this as a crime drama.
Dhanush lives and breathes his role as a beggar, delivering a heartfelt performance. Nagarjuna impresses with his experienced screen presence. Rashmika brings freshness in a slightly different role, while Jim Sarbh shines as the stylish and dangerous villain. The background score by Devi Sri Prasad adds energy to the film. The song "Poyva Nanba" has already become a hit. Cinematography by Niketh Bommi brings Hyderabad, Mumbai, and Tirupati vividly to life.
The first half of the movie moves briskly, but the second half lags. Despite Jim Sarbh's powerful villainy, the real villain of the film is its runtime — nearly 3 hours long — which tests patience. Some illogical moments and length could have been trimmed for a tighter experience. Sayaji Shinde’s appearance in the second half adds depth, but it’s not enough to revive the pacing.
Still, Kubera is worth a watch — especially with family — if you can overlook the runtime and minor logic gaps.
Final Verdict: Kubera – Should’ve Just Stayed a Beggar
