Detailed Review
On one side of the story, a tribal community living deep inside the forest continues to suffer harassment from a ruthless villain gang. These innocent people yearn for liberation from the constant torment.
On the other side, Shanmuga Pandian and his father, Kasthuri Raja, raise an elephant named Maniyan from a young calf. A gang, driven by greed, kidnaps the elephant with the intention of smuggling it and making money. They enter the forest, taking Maniyan along.
Shanmuga Pandian ventures into the forest in search of his beloved elephant. There, he comes across the hardships faced by the tribal people. What follows is a mix of action and sentiment: Will Shanmuga Pandian rescue his elephant from the smugglers? Will he save the oppressed people from the clutches of the villain gang? Director U. Anbu crafts this narrative with a blend of emotion and intensity.
Shanmuga Pandian delivers a much-improved performance compared to his previous films. Kasthuri Raja plays the role of the father naturally and convincingly. The AI-generated appearance of Vijayakanth feels like it could have been done better. The songs by Ilaiyaraaja are passable in terms of melody, but the background score is emotionally stirring and impactful. Supporting characters have done justice to their roles.
However, the film progresses at a slow pace. Certain scenes evoke memories of Kumki, and in some moments, the predictability of the plot takes away the impact.
If you enjoy films centered around the deep emotional bond between humans and animals, this is a movie worth watching in theaters with your family.
Overall, Padaithalaivan – Still has room to grow.
