Detailed Review
In the Dindigul district lies a remote hill village called Subramaniyapuram, which is divided into three regions — Subramaniyapuram, Yaakobpuram, and Sultan Pettai. As the names suggest, the people in these regions live separated by religion — Hindu, Christian, and Muslim communities coexist with underlying tension.
Frequent communal clashes erupt between the people of Subramaniyapuram and Yaakobpuram. Amidst this unrest, a mysterious couple — Vimal and Saaya Devi — begin targeting and killing several youngsters in the area. The police struggle to solve these serial murders, with no clue about who is behind them.
Who are Vimal and Saaya Devi? Why are they committing these murders? Were the police able to catch them? These questions form the crux of this horror-thriller attempted by director Isakki Karvannan.
Vimal delivers a solid performance as the lead, while Saaya Devi matches him with an equally convincing portrayal. Veteran actor M.S. Bhaskar brings his usual strength to his role, but the rest of the supporting cast fall into stereotypical and forgettable characters.
The music by Deepan Chakravarthy and cinematography by Sukumaran add some strength to the film. However, while the director tries to present a social message about communal harmony, the horror element fails to blend well, making the film lose its grip on audience engagement.
The heavy-handed dialogues and forced messaging give the feel of a propaganda film more than a compelling thriller. Unless you have the patience to sit through such a preachy film, this might not be for you.
Paramasivan Parthima – A long, dragging ride of propaganda masked as horror.
