Detailed Review

In a tribal village of Krishnagiri district, Sadaiyan (Dinesh) lives with his mother, father, younger brother and wife. His only dream is to somehow make his brother Murugan (Kalaiyarasan) a permanent forest officer. For seven years Murugan has been serving as a temporary officer, hoping to secure the job. But due to a clash between his elder brother Sadaiyan and Murugan`s superior officer, Murugan loses his position.

Because of this, the distressed Murugan is sent by Sadaiyan, who sells his land, to Jharkhand to join the government’s anti-Naxal force. After this, many shocking incidents begin to unfold in Murugan’s life. What are they? And in the end, does Murugan join the anti-Naxal division? Director Athiyan Adirai has presented this as an action thriller.

Dinesh has given an excellent performance as Sadaiyan, who rises in anger against the atrocities of the forest department. Kalaiyarasan has acted better in this film than in his earlier ones, though in breakdown scenes he still needs more refinement. Shabeer Kallarakkal impresses as always with his natural acting, even at times outshining Kalaiyarasan in the Jharkhand episodes. Vinshu Sam looks graceful and performs well. Bala Saravanan makes the audience laugh with his one-liners and also delivers effectively in emotional moments. Justin Prabhakaran`s songs and background score are fitting, while Pradeep Kaliraja`s cinematography captures the dense hills and wildlife beautifully.

The film begins with many powerful incidents in the first half, but in the second half it stumbles slightly due to the cinematic, hero-oriented scenes given to Dinesh. While making the film, the team seems to have been caught between treating it as a realistic drama or a commercial entertainer. Without those added heroic moments, the film could have flowed much better. If the screenplay had been tightened further, it could have stood alongside Visaranai and Viduthalai.

If you are someone who enjoyed Visaranai, Viduthalai, or Danakaran, this film will likely appeal to you.
