Year 1994 — The Kabaddi final at the Asian Games between Pakistan and India is taking place in Japan. Among the squad representing India is Dhruv Vikram.
But who is Dhruv Vikram? How did he reach this international stage?
Dhruv is a young man from a village called Vanathi in Tirunelveli. He dreams of becoming a kabaddi player no matter what. However, due to unpleasant and discriminatory circumstances in the village, his father, Pasupathi, strongly opposes his son pursuing this path.
With the support of his physical education teacher, Dhruv continues to move forward step by step. But caste discrimination and various obstacles constantly keep pulling him down. How he overcomes all these roadblocks and rises to success is delivered as an action-packed sports drama by director Mari Selvaraj.
Dhruv Vikram delivers a powerful performance — showcasing aggression, pain, passion, love, and emotion as needed — transforming into a strong kabaddi player and a true mass-action hero. As his father, Pasupathi perfectly fits the role and impresses with his seasoned acting. Rajisha Vijayan as Dhruv’s sister and Anupama Parameswaran as the female lead do justice to their roles and leave emotional impact where it matters.
Aruvi Madan as the PE teacher, Lal as the dominant Annachi, and Ameer as Pandiyaraja (Pasupathi’s character arc counterpart) also strengthen the narrative with strong performances.
Nivas K. Prasanna’s music and background score are satisfactory, while cinematographer Ezhil Arasu and art director Kumar Gangappa authentically recreate the 90s atmosphere.
