Detailed Review
In 1979, a massive crude oil pipeline is installed, affecting the livelihood of fishermen in the region. Despite continuous protests, the people are unable to remove it. Infuriated by the situation, Manohar (Sai Kumar) drills into the pipeline, steals some of the crude oil, and uses part of the profit to help the local community survive. His adopted son, Vasu—popularly known as Diesel (Haris Kalyan)—continues this operation.
To refine the stolen crude oil into petrol and diesel, they work with Pathan (Sachin Khedekar) who runs a processing unit in Mumbai.
Pathan has a long-time dream to sell lithium batteries. For that, he needs two major things:
1. A new port in North Chennai
2. An artificial fuel shortage to increase battery demand
How does he create these conditions? When Vasu discovers this conspiracy, how does he fight back? Debut director Arumugam Muthusamy delivers the narrative as an action thriller.
Haris Kalyan tries his hand at mass action sequences and protest scenes. They work to some extent, but many scenes could have been executed better, and his expressions feel insufficient in key moments.
Atulya Ravi’s role feels underwritten—she appears, falls for the hero, and disappears without impact.
Sachin Khedekar, Vinay, and Vivek Prasanna appear as multiple antagonists, but none of their characters are given strong depth.
Sai Kumar, Ramesh Thilak, and others perform well even with limited scope.
Technically, Dibhu Ninan Thomas’ score and the cinematography by Richard M. Nathan and M.S. Prabhu are commendable.
